World, Meet Butch Walker

Butch Walker and Pink performed "Here Comes The..." off his new album, Sycamore Meadows, on Ellen today.

I'm really happy that he is finally where he should be- in the public eye for his own music. It may have taken tremendous loss (Google it if you don't know), but this should bring a bit of faith to everyone who really feels like they're at the lowest point in their lives, scratching and clawing for a way back to "normal." Fate has a plan. And for Butch, it was to take away all his material possessions and leave him with simply his soul, pets and family in order to get him in the mindset to write arguably his most personal, touching album to date.

Planet Verge has been leading the Butch parade for years now. He goes along with any crazy thing we happen to drag him into- from going on The Style Network's The Look for Less with Jordana as she got a makeover for her interview with him to contributing to our sex advice column back in the print days. What can we say? We love him and we're glad the world is finally going to pay attention to everything which we've been screaming!

Perhaps the longtime fans will "suffer" a bit because of the mainstream madness for Butch that will now surely ensue. Shows will sell out even faster and there may be the type of drunk girls you want to punch in the face singing along next to you at the next show. But, find solace in the fact that Butch's lyrics have touched another person's life and he is creeping one step closer to being regarded as famously as Jeff Buckley.

LET'S MAKE TODAY CELEBRATE BUTCH DAY!

"One of the Boys" is right.

Katy Perry's solo major label debut, One of the Boys, demonstrates that on major labels, music is a business--not an art.

For one, works of art don't come with press kits the size of Dostoyevsky novels.

More importantly: Art is generally original, whereas Perry's works mainly bite off of other mainstream pop acts. Her heavily rotating single, "I Kissed a Girl," tackles the heavy issue of Girls Gone Wild-era bisexuality; a more convincing and believable ode to experimentation would be "Oh My God" by Pink--incidentally, quite a few of Perry's hooks are reminiscent to Ms. Alecia Moore's as well. When she's not pulling a Pink, Perry morphs into a prettier Kelly Clarkson ("Waking Up in Vegas," an admitted pop gem) or Avril Lavigne ("Thinking of You").

Armed with a dream team of producers from Planet Verge favorite Butch Walker to pop monster maker Max Martin, Perry's strained vocals skip along lyrics that are indeed catchy--but not quite as clever as she wants us to think. From "Hot N' Cold's" line "You PMS like a bitch / I would know" to nearly all of "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl," Perry proves she's one of the boys in that she has the lyrical capacity of a middle school male.

Katy Perry's record may not be good for the furthering of the arts, but she's great for big business.

...Just don't expect her to shatter any glass ceilings.

Careless Reporting

It's hilarious how this week's issues of Life & Style and In Touch Weekly both ran half-page exposes on Pink's new man- "Butch Walker." Apparently, they've been spoted making out everywhere and there's pictures to prove it. One problem-- THE UGLY DUDE IS NOT BUTCH WALKER!

This is low for even a tabloid. Wouldn't you at least fact check the guy's picture and Google Butch Walker???
Tsk, tsk...

P.S. The REAL Butch Walker is happily married and even TMZ didn't know who he was when they posted a video of him as "Avril Lavigne's friend" getting into a tiff with paparazzi. Should I go work at these places?

Just as aggravating is Perez Hilton posting that My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero married "some random chick," instead of doing something real journalists do everyday-research! Then he could have posted that Iero wed his long-time love, Jamia, who runs Skeleton Crew with him. Or something like that. Anyway, Congrats guys! You looked beautiful.

What's the lesson to these tabloids? Don't try to report on things--like actually cool musicians-- you don't know. Or at least do your research first!
