Why don't they all cover "Another One Bites the Dust?"
Chicago rock band June have called it quits after six years of melodic barnburners.
The split was amicable, and the band has implied that economic factors led to the breakup.
"It really does make us sad when we start sitting and reminiscing about all of the incredible shows we've played, the people we've met, the parties and places we went to everywhere in the US... It was all just amazing. However, it also becomes a harsh reality when you really start having to look at your own life and really building to have a successful career," drummer Mark Sutor said in a letter on the band's blog.
"Unfortunately, the music industry, as awesome as it is to be apart [sic] of, is a tough place to really set yourself up for a stable setting in the future," Sutor wrote.
June are the latest Illinois-based Victory Records band to throw in the musical towel, following Spitalfield in December and The Junior Varsity in fall 2007.
Meanwhile, Chicago pop-rock outfit The Elation have bounced back from break up rumors this week.
The band announced that their Feb. 22nd show at Mojoe's Rock House would be their last, but hope now remains.
After a rather acrimonious split of their drummer, bassist, and a guitarist, brothers Spencer (lead vocals and guitar), 19, and Ross (keyboards) Birkner, 18, have vowed to continue their work as one of the most promising outfits on the Chicago scene.
"Theres [sic] no point in talking about what happened. What matters is that this is not the end for The Elation. We are going to continue on making music," the band said in a statement on their MySpace. "There are going to be a lot of changes. The next time any of you see The Elation, it won't be anything like the one you saw before."
While the brothers Birkner continue their search for replacements for their departed partners, their Feb. 22nd show at Mojoe's Rockhouse is tentatively cancelled.

2007 Victory Records Tour!
Yes, yes, I know, its 2008.
Featuring- A Day to Remember, June, The Sleeping, and BAYSIDE!
Victory Records brought out their biggest names for the 2007 Victory Records Tour. The success of this tour was inevitable...with the names they had staking the line up, they were bound for sold out shows. While each band is extremely unique in their own right, they have a common crowd, which did great things for show attendance. Their Stone Pony date was sold out! Hell Yes.
A DAY TO REMEMBER- Even though this band was the first on the bill, the sold out venue was packed well before they even hit the stage. Their total young rock vibe allowed for a complete connection and total rock out experience. They have as much fun on stage as the kids do in the crowd. One of the best segments of the night was their cover of Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone." LOVED IT! There's nothing better than seeing a bunch of rockers totally jam out to Kelly.
JUNE- The more light hearted band of the night, they have a bit softer sound then the other acts, however they are not to be messed with- they pack a powerful punch and seemed to be one of the crowd's favorites. June has creative lyrics and extremely complementary instrumentals that create a pleasant rock aura. Before the Stone Pony show I knew little about them, but they had such a catchy sound that by the end of the night I was antsy for my lap top...I needed to MySpace 'em. June is my pick for BreakOut! band of the night.
THE SLEEPING- I'd say they they were the wake up call of the night. With their scream driven sound and high energy performance they left you no opportunity to escape their presence. They whole gig just works. The charismatic vocalist allows for his intense screaming to be chased by supportive instrumentals. Between the battling guitar and bass, its a sound experience for all your senses. An extremely alive performance by The Sleeping.
Bayside. What more can I say? These guys have paid their dues and have been around the block and back. The longevity of their popularity shines as they perform, there's no wonder as to why they have achieved as much success as they have. They bring more than music to the stage, they bring themselves and their passion to each moment they stand in front of you. It was only the second time I have seen them perform, but it left an impact. They are a presence of greatness. Bayside is certainly an awesome live act.

Mailbag "Reviews"
This is where I actually tell you my thoughts on music that is sent to us before I give it away or throw it in the garbage.
- The Autumn Offering, Fear Will Cast No Shadow: First thoughts? It's not so bad. I actually let it play through several songs and I think I'll put it on again. Why? Because it sounds like Bullet For My Valentine. But then again, why not just listen to Bullet For My Valentine?
Arist and Ruin,The Final Dawn: This lasted all of 5 seconds and I didn't even switch to another track. There is no need for another bad screaming band in my world, sorry. What's up with all the new Victory releases having such dark covers?
So They Say, Life in Surveillance: Well, the first few tracks skipped and wouldn't play. So I put on track 5 and it's OK. Sounds like everyone else with a twist of Maynard. And one of the dudes in the band looks like Dave Grohl. I'll give this one away.
Between the Buried and Me, Colors: I didn't even read the band name on the cover, but I had high hopes from the band as soon as I flipped open the case. The picture of the vocalist singing is awesome. Very Lostprophetish inside. I'm on track one now and thank God some madness came in because the first few moments of the song were beging to bore me! I'm really into the musicianship here and I'm only on track 2.Yay for me giving a positive review to a Victory band. It's been a while. Ok on to someone else, as I'll deff be back to this album.
She Wants Revenge, This Is Forever: I totally only took interest in this band because Michael Patterson produced it and he's a judge for The Independent Music Awards this year. I love it! Very goth. I think my fiance will even listen to this one. My only complaint is that there's not that much of a change-up between songs. Very static, but it's "easy" listening. Check these guys out for sure.
Edition, Demos: Speaking of the Independent Music Awards, there was one band I loved, loved, loved while checking out the submissions and it was these guys and not just because they're British and have a Clockwork Orange vibe. They hooks are so addictive and I had "Liberated" in my head for days. They've got style, they've got class, and they'll have you shakin' your ass. I wish they had more than three songs recorded. www.myspace.com/editiontheband
Blowsight, Destination Terrorville: I friggin' love these guys and gal! This is one of the ONLY bands I've seen live BEFORE being a fan. What's the chance I'd see these Sweedish metalers playing at Maxwells in Hoboken? I hope they'll be back soon because I miss them! I'm very picky about what heavy music I like and I'd deff. recommend this band to all those who salute headbanging. (Wait, I already do that!) The vocals are intoxicating and the music has a real melodic comfort. Maybe even more than I expected. And don't be fooled by appearances, they are some of the nicest people I've ever met and even do a great cover of Ms. Brittany Spears. www.myspace.com/blowsight
Moros Eros, Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity: Who are these guys? I never heard of them and it appears they are on Victory. Hmm, I think Jess or Jen will like this band better than me. But I do like the German Shepard on the inside of the album cover. Props, guys. Props. Ok track 2 may get you dancin'! Now I'm taking it off. They sound too much like someone else I don't know because I don't like and shut it o-f-f.
Shane Neville: Um, this is some weird tribal shit right here. The bio says that he is a sound engineer. Well, I'd deff say he has his act together and if you like spacey instrumental, extremely artistic music, go for the gold and get your hands on this.

Hula to This
Lately I've decided to do a half-hour of hula hoopping a day (it's a great workout and rumored to be how Beyonce gets so bootylicious) and with that comes another excuse to listen to loud music. Here's what's been keeping my energy pumping.
1. Avril Lavigne, The Best Damn Thing- I know! I know... It's a guilty pleasure. I always listened to Avril on the radio and once two of my favorite artists, Butch Walker and Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida both worked on her last album I had to buy it. This time around, Butch was back and so was I. Here's what I learned from watching the accompanying DVD. 1-Butch wasn't in it enough, 2- Derek Whibly still needs a nose job, 3- Marriage hasn't made Avril more mature, she seems a little bratty. 4- A lot of her fanbase is going to be alienated or not allowed to listen to her potty mouth. Bottom line, this CD may not be The Best Damn Thing, but it's mighty delish. Some songs feel like she's going backwards in evolution as an artist. Some are a giant leap forward (credit Butch). Don't take it too seriously and you'll have a good time singing along. Best of the bunch- "When Your Gone," is sure to be a Number One radio hit. I will keep this on rotation with my hula hooping sountrack.
2. Good Charlotte, Good Morning Revival- I cringed when they did a song, "The River," with Avenged Sevenfold and ended up liking it anyway. I didn't know who sold out more with that one. However, I love this album. While I have a strong alliance to their debut and much boredom with their last effort, I must say, this is new CD anything but a let down. Even the slight rapping that I didn't like at first, I like now. "Keep Your Hands off My Girl" is a winner. "All Black" is a bore (seriously, what is the point of that track??). Good Charlotte are at a place in their career where they could've tanked and followed the same old format that got them famous, but they proved that they're sailing on into safe waters and aren't going anywhere just yet by branching out into new musical territory. The CD gets my hips moving. It'll stay on rotation. Try to get your hands on issue 2 of Planet Verge (from like six years ago, so good luck) and read my interview with Billy. He was blonde then. ah, memories...
3. 1997, A Better View of The Rising Moon- Flat out, Victory Records has been sorta sucking lately (no Black Maria tour??) It's to the point where I don't even want to open CDs from them. But I'm glad I took a chance and spinned 1997. Honestly, the fact that there is a girl in the band (and her hair is cute) grabbed my interest. But I really like the songs and the smooth contrast between male and female vocals. Deff. check out this band.
