MUST BUY, No Lie: Rick Springfield

Victoria’s going to give Jessie a run for her money on July 29.

“Jessie’s Girl” is no doubt Rick Springfield’s biggest hit, but when “What’s Victoria’s Secret?,” off his upcoming album, VENUS IN OVERDRIVE, hits the airwaves Springfield should be seeing his name returning to the top of the charts.

The song is so catchy; it would be a hit even without his name on it. The same can be said for most of the album. The clever wordplay on “I’ll Miss That Somebody” makes this another ideal radio track. And of course, no disk would be titled after a crappy song.“Venus is Overdrive” showcases the edgier, arena rock Rick, similar to “3 Warning Shots.” “She” kicks off with the chorus and stays strong. From beginning to end, VENUS IN OVERDRIVE is an addictive listen.

Now, I’m aware that Planet Verge blog readers are probably split down the middle when to comes to Rick Springfield awareness. The half that’s in their late-twenties (gasp, I’m well past my mid-twenties) are still rocking out to “Jessie’s Girl,” on their ipods, like my co-workers and frequently do. The more Warped Tour interested bunch of you are probably weary of what I wrote above. But here’s the thing: Don’t we all love great power pop rock? Someone’s got to pick up where Bon Jovi left their coolness (and talent for good pop rock songwriting- sad as I am to say) years ago. Let it be Rick Springfield.

RICK SPRINGFIELD PERFORMING "WHO KILLED ROCK N ROLL" ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Fans were lucky enough to see Springfield return to General Hospital as Dr. Noah Drake (the role he originated 25 years ago) a few months ago as rock star Eli Love. The character (and singer) performed on the air for a LIFEbeat concert. It showed that Springfield still rocks after all these years and I no doubt, plan on being in the audience next time he hits NJ/NYC.

And here’s where things get even more fun. LIFEbeat, like Planet Verge, is a sponsor of The Independent Music Awards this year. And I suppose as publicist for the IMAs, now is a good time to announce that RICK SPRINGFIELD WILL BE JOINING THE IMA JUDGING PANEL THIS YEAR!

The Anti-Valentine's video

Valentine's Day is a Hallmark Holiday. Invented for candy, card, flower and jewerly companies to rake in profits from people who feel like they have to prove their love to their significant other.

Real love thrives every day. Between two people privately. I'm in a relationship and we are not going to an expensive dinner tonight, or wasting money on gifts we don't need. We're gonna do what we always do at night- curl up in bed with the dog and watch General Hospital. I'm way more interested in finding out who the "text-message killer" is than I am being seen in public holding someone's hand.

Anyway, today Aimee Allen released her anti-Valentine's video. It's sad to see that Scott and Aimee are no more. But if I've learned anything through life, it's that you have to go through a LOT of pain, heartbreak, tears and drama to get to the person you're meant to be with.

Watch the emotional video below. Her dog is adorable. I think most people are better off with dogs than with a boyfriend or girlfriend. You get unconditional, faithful love and your freedom.....

Organization can be fun

After running late for work one morning last week because I couldn't find the shirt I wanted to wear, I decided it was time once again to organize my closet.

Over the past few months, I've been slowly preparing myself for moving day(once my wedding finally comes). I've thrown out 3 Hefty bags of CDs (I know, I know...), given bags of clothes I never wear to the Salvation Army (and buying new ones!), etc. And now I have a more grown up closet! Things are actually organized into sections: jeans, jackets/hoodies, shirts, skirts, dresses.... And only one article of clothing per hanger! Big step for me.

And let me tell you, it makes getting dressed and picking outfits even more fun because you can actually see all your choices and not just work off your memory and then dig. It's great! I highly reccomend it. Now I just have to make the move and get rid of all my metal hangers!

This organization usually lasts a few months and then I have to go back and do it all over again. But I think I'm gonna try extra hard to make it last this time. Now I still need to find the cute little Heatherette dress I got on sale at Loehman's for $12!!! Ahhh....

Ok, General Hospital is on now. Damn, Johnny Zacarda is so hot. Who else is watching with me, ladies?

Tune into BBC

Digital cable has changed my life. Now that I have a full-time job and can't watch General Hospital during the day, I get to tune into SOAPNET at night.

But almost even better is BBC on demand. Coupling is the funniest show ever. Forget about Friends! And In the City is a way hot extension of Hollyoaks. They rule me.

That's all I have for you really. I just felt like writing a blog but have nothing to say.

I smell an Emmy!

There is no way General Hospital is not going to sweep every category this year. The whole hotel hostage situation is showcasing the excellent writing team and giving the actors a chance to shine with their dramatic art. Everything is keeping me on the edge of my seat. I don't even want to read the soap magazines to find out what's going to happen because that just spoils the fun!

Tune in weekdays on ABC. I even got my boyfriend hooked. haha Don't forget some of the best actors in movies today came from soaps!
